Texas Family Law Practice Manual Has Been Updated

A recent legislative update affects the 2024 edition of the Texas Family Law Practice Manual. Senate Bill 48 requires the use of standardized forms from the Office of Court Administration (OCA) for certain protective order proceedings.

The updated OCA forms have added to the online subscription product of the Texas Family Law Practice Manual. They will also be included in future print editions and those editions' corresponding digital downloads.

Senate Bill 48: Standardized Forms from the Office of Court Administration (OCA)

The Texas Family Law Practice Manual Online Subscription has been updated to include new required protective order forms. Senate Bill 48, enacted in the 2023 legislative session, requires the use of standardized forms from the Office of Court Administration (OCA) for certain protective order proceedings.

The required forms include:

  • Application for Protective Order
  • Protective Order
  • Temporary Ex Parte Order

These forms have been added to the Texas Family Law Practice Manual Online Subscription available at www.texasbarpractice.com as forms 17-1 through 17-3. This addition to the online product is free of charge as a part of our online subscription updates. Future editions of the Print and Digital Download will also reflect these updates.

These forms are also available at the OCA’s website, and effective June 1, 2024, their use is mandatory.

The following standardized OCA forms, which can be used in conjunction with the required forms, have also been added:

  • Notice of Application for Protective Order and Setting of Hearing
  • Additional Orders for Protective Order
